Melbourne City Powerchair duo Luke David and Rebecca Evans have been named in the Poweroos squad for next month’s 2023 FIPFA Powerchair Football World Cup. The star City duo have been selected in the Australian squad of eight players to compete at the major tournament. Evans is the only female to be selected in the Australian squad, having previously opened up on what it means to be a female in the game.
“I think it’s quite unique being one of the rare female players in Powerchair Football,” Evans said.
“Often when other players meet you, they kind of underestimate you because of your gender. It’s not until they see me play that they realise I’m just like one of the guys.
“Gender has no meaning in this game, you’re just like everybody else.”
A legend of City’s powerchair team, David is a City star both on and off the field. "It is an incredible honour and I am very proud to be representing the green and gold. It has been a long journey to get here and I am super excited to see what we can do on the world stage." Luke said.
The World Cup will be hosted in Sydney between Sunday 15th and Friday 20th October.
